Drawing Fairy Folk and Dryads

I have been working on my drawing skills as I pursue my dreams of someday becoming a full-time artist.  I am experimenting with lots of different styles to try to figure out what my style is.

I like hyper-realism and surrealism so I tried blending the two, but my hyper-realism may need some work.  If you compare it to some of my older pieces it is quite an improvement though.

This is what I started with.  It had been sitting in my sketchbook for a long time begging to be thoroughly created.  I always give my drawings this imaginary personality, that I think up before I draw them and it shows in the way their features are arranged, how they smile, where the eyebrows are, and so on.

I edited the pictures to black and white so the lighting didn’t look so bad.  I was working by a lamp and I don’t have any idea how to use my* nice camera so… I use my phone camera.

I have a tendency to combine trees and plants with humans, that stems from reading a ton of Greek myths in fifth and sixth grade.  The idea of people living in trees sounded beautiful, so I consistently make tree people.  I wasn’t planing on making her hair turn to leaves in the beginning, more of have a wreath of flowers, as it started coming along though, I liked it more with the leaves and branches weaving all over the place.
